Go Native Wins WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle

28th November 2009

Go Native stormed to victory at Newcastle on Saturday to land the £100,000 WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle in tremendous style under jockey Davy Condon.

Noel Meade’s Supreme Novice’s Hurdle winner bounced back from a disappointing defeat in Ireland last time out to win the Grade 1 feature by 2 ½ lengths from Sublimity with Solwhit back in third.

The six-year-old will now head to Kempton on Boxing Day for the Christmas Hurdle as he bids to land the second leg of the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown.

Go Native’s triumph was trainer Meade’s third success in the two mile contest following previous wins in 2004 and 2007 for Harchibald.

Regular jockey Paul Carberry, representing the trainer, said: "That wasn't really a surprise. It was tough race but he's a good horse.

I am not sure where he will go but I would say the Christmas Hurdle would be in our minds if the ground isn't too soft. It will be a while before I get on him but I can't wait."

Success at the Sunbury track would leave Go Native just victory in the Champion Hurdle away from landing connections the £1 million bonus that is on offer for any horse that wins the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown.
