Go Native Fails In Bonus Bid
17th March 2010
2009 WBX.COM Fighting Fifth and Christmas Hurdle winner Go Native was unable to land the third and final leg of the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown when only finishing tenth in the Champion Hurdle.
The WBX Hurdling Triple crown offers a £1 million bonus for any horse successful in Britian's three Grade 1 2m hurdle races in the same season. However, Go Native failed to land a blow in the feature race on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival when well beaten by the Nicky Henderson-trained Binocular.
Reflecting on the defeat of his stable star trainer Noel Meade said: "Go Native seemed fine this morning and was sound. We will have him checked out when we get home and if he is okay then I would imagine he will go to Punchestown for the Rabobank Champion Hurdle.
"Paul (Carberry) said he never felt right after making a bad mistake at the second hurdle."
Kribensis remains the only horse to win the three races which form the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown in the same season.
